Why it Matters?

"I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being." - Oscar Wilde

Theater has been an important part of society throughout history; from the ancient Greeks, to Elizabethan England and right up into modern times. Theater takes on social issues, it entertains and instructs. Often times it is society's mirror reflecting back its culture and history.

When our children participate in theater they are part of a community. They come together to create a shared experience for an audience. They have opportunities to try new things in a safe and supportive community. Some find their passion behind the scenes, designing and building sets, while others work in costume and makeup, or lighting and sound. As an audience we see the actors on stage but behind the scenes there is an entire community working together to make what we are seeing possible.

Bloomingdale High School is fortunate to have Rachel Cox as the director of its theater program. She is passionate about the arts and understands the importance of arts education in developing students into well rounded individuals. Theater communities value what is unique in each of its members. It's okay to be quiet, to be shy, to be loud, to be funny to be yourself. She taps into what is unique in each of the thespians under her direction and builds upon their collective differences.

Arts education is important. Some of the greatest minds in business and most successful entrepreneurs credit the arts with stimulating the creativity that fuels success in business. Our students are better prepared for the world when they learn how to tap into the creative part of their mind to solution and problem solve.

As boosters, we want to make sure at Bloomingdale High School, the children in our community that attend now and in the future, have the opportunity to enrich their lives and education through the arts. It is our mission to organize, gain support, and grow interest in the theater program so students can focus on being students and Ms. Cox can focus on developing them into exceptional thespians.
